[[ Hax? Hax. Let's do this. ]]
In retrospect, Ian was not quite sure why he ended up buying the kitten. He also reflected that the pet store (Pets 'N' Things) had rather questionable sources for such a large selection of furry, feathery or scaly friends. (The "'N' Things" part of the title also made him wonder about some strange side business that had nothing to do with pets at all.) He brushed it off as he unlocked his flat. He stepped inside with the kitten and all of his kitten things and closed the door. He set the pet supplies and carrier down and removed his respirator, taking a deep breath in as he set it down next to the pet supplies. He set the pet carrier on the ground and kneeled down, opening it and pulling the kitten from the inside.
It was so small in his hands. The kitten flailed a little as he held it in one hand, but calmed when he brought the kitten to his chest. He spoke softly, petting her. "Little Makel. My little girl." He petted her for a little while longer, then gently set her on the ground so she could romp around the floor a little and get used to her new home. He pulled out the pet food and water bowls and filled them, then went off to set up the litter box. He went through the dull process of training Makel where the litter box was, then sat down on his couch for a moment to take a breath. The kitten jumped onto his lap and curled up contentedly, purring quietly as she lay there. Surprised, Ian smiled and picked the kitten up again, hugging her gently and kissing her on the top of the head, speaking softly to her as he rubbed her chin. "My little girl. I love you, silly little sweetheart."
