Elise was only four years old when her father died. She was hit much harder by his death than her sister was. It was her first confrontation with death, and she didn't know where to start - she threw fits and cried all night, often refusing to eat or leave her room.
The news of her mother remarrying, of course, was insane to her - she was just then returning to a normal sleeping schedule. Elise, unaware of just how lost her mother was as well, felt betrayed, as if no one cared about her or her father. This betrayal later grew into hatred.
These feelings only increased when the true nature of her stepfather came to light, and he began to abuse the two girls. Elise had nowhere to run. She had just started school, and had no close friends and even fewer understanding teachers. Suddenly, she found herself trusting no one but her sister - and even that was shifty.
At 13, she ran away with Marina - after which, her life seemed to pick up. Just shy of fourteen, she made her first real friend - a punk-rock boy named Ricardo. He taught her many things, one of those being how to pickpocket. During this time, she fell in love with him, and they started to date.
When she was sixteen, Ricardo finally confided in her his dream; to start a gang here in Plethora of other street rats - to gain money and reputation by theft. This was Azulus. (Ricardo was never very creative.) Elise quickly jumped aboard. Their first missions involved a few home break-ins... but on the third robbery, Ricardo was killed by the homeowner, leaving his girlfriend heartbroken. Establishing herself as the new leader of the group, she kicked out most of the members and instituted new rules and regulations, including an intensely violent initiation ritual and a ban on break-ins. Despite all the precautions, she still rarely trusts any of her members on a personal level. This, she hopes, will set them apart from other gangs and allow them to remain safe in their dominance. Unfortunately, she's never heard of Red Moon Group...
